Back on the horse at Reimers Ranch

On Sunday, we decided to go explore Fredericksburg since we figured Reimers Ranch would be packed. Fredericksburg is a really cute little town created in 1846 when 120 German people came and settled there. The German heritage is still omnipresent here and it was really lovely to discover this place. Plus, there were tons of fresh pecans everywhere on the ground! We ate some and filled our pockets!

Dimanche, nous avons décidé d'aller explorer Fredericksburg comme on se disait que Reimers Ranch serait bondé. Fredericksburg est vraiment une jolie petite ville qui a été créée en 1846 quand 120 Allemands sont venus s'y installer. L'héritage germanique y est encore omniprésent et ce fut un endroit vraiment agréable à découvrir. On a même dîné sur une terrasse, un 20 janvier! En plus, nous avons trouvé des tonnes de pacanes fraîches par terre! Nous en avons mangé tout plein et avons rempli nos poches!

We visited a dog boutique and were a bit in shock to discover that crazy industry in the States... the clothes, the felted toys that looked like works of art, the birthday cards, the jewels and the cookies and donuts...

Nous avons visité une boutique pour chiens et avons été estomaqués de découvrir cette industrie florissante aux États-Unis... les vêtements, les jouets feutrés qui ressemblent à des objets du Salon des métiers d'art, les cartes d'anniversaire à leur intention, les bijoux et les biscuits et beignes à aussi jolis que ceux pour humains...

Ce T-shirt était vraiment fait pour nous (j'y aurais quand même ajouté un de justesse...)

When we arrived at Reimers Ranch on Monday morning, we were quite surprised to see many cars in the parking lot and a big shirt-less crowd from the local university... Of course, we found out later that it was Martin Luther King's Day... So Canadian of us... Fortunately, there were no boy scouts and the routes we were interested in were free and we had a good time! The rock here is so different from Enchanted Rock, full of holes and pockets (and fossils... it was a canyon filled with water a long time ago!).

Quand nous sommes arrivés à Reimers Ranch lundi matin, nous étions plutôt surpris de voir tant de voitures dans le stationnement et une foule en bedaine de l'université du coin... Bien entendu, nous avons appris plus tard que c'était Martin Luther King's Day... On est vraiment Canadiens... Heureusement, les scouts n'étaient pas là et les voies qui nous intéressaient étaient libres. On s'est vraiment amusés! La roche ici est tellement différente de celle d'Enchanted Rock, plein de trous et de poches (et de fossiles... c'était, il y a longtemps, un canyon rempli d'eau!).

I think the people who create the routes are among the wittiest people on the planet... because they come up with the funniest names...

Je trouve que les gens qui font les voies sont parmi les personnes qui ont le plus d'esprit sur la planète... parce qu'ils inventent les noms de voies les plus incroyables...

For instance, at Enchanted Rock, in the Dairy Farm boulder section, you had routes called Cottage cheese face, Milk moustache and Oops! I missed the bucket. 

Par exemple, à Enchanted Rock, dans la section de bloc Dairy Farm (Ferme laitière), il y a des voies qui s'appellent face de fromage cottage, moustache de lait et Oups! J'ai manqué le sceau (beaucoup plus drôle en anglais et c'est pour ça que je n'essaierai même pas de traduire le prochain paragraphe...).

And there are plenty of others (from many different climbing sites) like : With Friends Like That Who Needs Enemas, radioactive blackbelt hamsters, Chainsaw at the Inlaw, Geriatric sex maniacs from Mars, Sleeping bat in a ziplock bag, Make Haste or Tomato Paste, All Chalk And No Action, Bald Women With Power Tools, Boogers on a Lampshade... What's the funniest name of a route you climbed?
