La Paz Waterfall Gardens

Des amis nous avaient dit que si nous devions choisir un seul endroit à visiter au Costa Rica (pour les animaux), c'était celui-là! Ils avaient bien raison! Je suis bien contente que nous ayons pris toute la journée (et non seulement l'après-midi comme le font plusieurs qui se rendent au Poas le matin). C'était très tranquille en avant-midi et le dîner-buffet était vraiment bien. Les sentiers sont magnifiques et les animaux époustouflants. J'ai par contre trouvé le personnel parfois un peu blasé... Notre plus grande déception a été qu’il n’y avait que très peu d’information, souvent même le nom des animaux n’était pas indiqué sur les cages, les insectes n'étaient pas identifiés, etc. Si vous allez visiter La Paz Watefall Gardens, apportez avec vous les fameux petits dépliants plastifiés qui se vendent partout afin d’identifier vous-mêmes les animaux. Et si quelqu'un découvre une erreur d'identification (ou si vous connaissez le nom en français, notamment pour les colibris) des animaux plus bas, s.v.p. laissez un commentaire et je le changerai.

Friends had told us that if we were to choose only one place to visit in Costa Rica (to see animals), that was the one! They were right! I am glad that we took all day (and not only the afternoon as do many who go to the Poas volcano in the morning). It was very quiet in the morning and the dinner buffet was good. The trails are beautiful and the animals are amazing. However, I found the staff sometimes a little jaded ... Our biggest disappointment was that there was very little information, often even the names of animals are not indicated on the cages, the insects are not identified, etc.. If you go to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, bring the little laminated pamphlets that they sell everywhere with you to identify the animals yourself. And if someone catches a mistake I made in the name of the animals (or if you know the name in French, especially for the hummingbirds), please leave a comment so I can change it!

Happy new year from the jungle!

We have had friends staying with us for the last couple of days and we are really enjoying their presence. I LOVE talking with moms of grown-up children (and their children!), especially when they are funny and witty! I find it so insightful and enlightening. And needless to say, it is pretty helpful too!

Nous avons des amis chez nous depuis quelques jours et nous apprécions énormément leur présence. J'ADORE parler avec des femmes qui ont de grands enfants (et avec leurs enfants!), particulièrement quand elles sont drôles et qu'elles ont de l'esprit! Je trouve ça tellement éclairant et inspirant. Et inutile de vous dire que ça nous donne aussi un fier coup de main!

It has been a month that I am chasing toucans with my camera every time I hear one (they are much easier to hear than to see!), as well as aracaris. We just happened to be sitting at Chapy's in downtown Dominical when I turned around and noticed both species right beside me!

Ça fait un mois que je cours chercher mon appareil photo dès que j'entends un toucan (ils sont beaucoup plus facile à entendre qu'à voir), ainsi que des araçaris. Tandis qu'on était assis au Chapy's au centre-ville de Dominical, je me suis retournée et ces deux espèces étaient dans un arbre juste à côté de moi!

All the life around us...

Inspired by all the fruits that we saw at the market yesterday, we draw and wrote in our scrapbook today.

Inspirées par tous les fruits que nous avions vus au marché hier, nous avons dessiné et écrit dans notre scrapbook aujourd'hui.





We went to Hacienda Baru, a nice ecotourism lodge near where we are staying to get some nice plastified wildlife, tropical fruits and insects (and arachnids) guides. We also looked at the tours they offer since they had been recommanded to us by many people (they even have French tours on request, which is pretty rare here!) and considered the canopy tour (zipline, adapted to all ages), but at $35 box for 2-3 hours, we decided it could wait...

Nous sommes allées à Hacienda Baru, un centre de villégiature écotouristique près de chez nous pour se procurer des dépliants plastifiés sur la faune, les fruits tropicaux et les insectes (et les arachnides). Nous avons aussi regardé les activités organisées qu'ils proposaient comme ils nous ont été chaudement recommandé par plusieurs personnes (ils offrent même des visites guidées en français sur demande, ce qui est plutôt rare ici!) et nous avons considéré le tour de la canopée (tyrolienne, adaptée pour tous les âges), mais à 35 $ par personne pour 2-3 heures, nous avons décidé d'attendre un peu...
