La Paz Waterfall Gardens

Des amis nous avaient dit que si nous devions choisir un seul endroit à visiter au Costa Rica (pour les animaux), c'était celui-là! Ils avaient bien raison! Je suis bien contente que nous ayons pris toute la journée (et non seulement l'après-midi comme le font plusieurs qui se rendent au Poas le matin). C'était très tranquille en avant-midi et le dîner-buffet était vraiment bien. Les sentiers sont magnifiques et les animaux époustouflants. J'ai par contre trouvé le personnel parfois un peu blasé... Notre plus grande déception a été qu’il n’y avait que très peu d’information, souvent même le nom des animaux n’était pas indiqué sur les cages, les insectes n'étaient pas identifiés, etc. Si vous allez visiter La Paz Watefall Gardens, apportez avec vous les fameux petits dépliants plastifiés qui se vendent partout afin d’identifier vous-mêmes les animaux. Et si quelqu'un découvre une erreur d'identification (ou si vous connaissez le nom en français, notamment pour les colibris) des animaux plus bas, s.v.p. laissez un commentaire et je le changerai.

Friends had told us that if we were to choose only one place to visit in Costa Rica (to see animals), that was the one! They were right! I am glad that we took all day (and not only the afternoon as do many who go to the Poas volcano in the morning). It was very quiet in the morning and the dinner buffet was good. The trails are beautiful and the animals are amazing. However, I found the staff sometimes a little jaded ... Our biggest disappointment was that there was very little information, often even the names of animals are not indicated on the cages, the insects are not identified, etc.. If you go to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, bring the little laminated pamphlets that they sell everywhere with you to identify the animals yourself. And if someone catches a mistake I made in the name of the animals (or if you know the name in French, especially for the hummingbirds), please leave a comment so I can change it!

La route des volcans...

Nous avons quitté Ojochal hier pour se diriger vers la région du volcan Poas. Nous ne nous attendions pas à un changement de température aussi draconnien. Brrr!

We left Ojochal to go to the Poas volcano region. We did not expect such a dramatic temperature change. Brrr!

En route, nous sommes arrêtés voir les crocodiles du Tarcoles, supposément les plus gros du Costa...

Puis, après Alajuela, le climat et le paysage ont totalement changé...

Nous avons passé la première nuit dans un superbe B & B, Los Chubascos.

We spent the first night at a beautiful B & B called Los Chubascos.

:: We slept with heavy blankets and even turned the heater on! It is cold at night at 2000 meters of altitude (7000 feets)/Nous avons dormi avec de grosses couvertures et nous avons même fait fonctionner la chaufferette. Il fait froid la nuit à 2000 mètres d'altitude (7000 pieds)! ::



Nous avons savouré un bon déjeuner typique du CR sur la terrasse du resto.

We enjoyed a delicious typical CR breakfast on the restaurant terrace.

A beach birthday...

We were invited by the super nice (Quebec-born) owners of a delicious creperie in Uvita (Creperia Marquesa) to the birthday celebration of their 8 yo son. By the same token, we discovered a beautiful quiet beach, 5 minutes from our house.

Nous avons été invités par les très gentils proprios (originaires du Québec) d'une délicieuse crêperie à Uvita (Creperia Marquesa) à l'anniversaire de leur fils de 8 ans. Par la même occasion, nous avons découvert une superbe plage tranquille à 5 minutes de la maison.

There is a nice cold river right there too which is nice to clean yourself from the salty water and sand, and cool down (the water from the sea is almost too hot!).

Il y a une belle rivière fraîche tout près pour se rinser de l'eau salée et du sable et pour se rafraîchir (l'eau de la mer est presque trop chaude!).

Equator sunsets...

At least a couple of times a week, we stay on the beach late enough to see the sunset (5:45), but if we are home, we just have to climb up the steep road to an abandonned house 2 minutes away from our house to have first row seats to this amazing show. It is incredible how fast the sun goes down here. You can litterally see it go down and "sink" in the sea...

Au moins quelques fois par semaine, on reste à la plage assez tard pour voir le coucher de soleil (17 h 45), mais si nous sommes à la maison, nous n'avons qu'à grimper la côte jusqu'à une maison abandonnée de l'autre côté de la route, à 2 minutes de chez nous pour avoir les premières loges pour assister à ce magnifique spectacle. C'est incroyable la vitesse à laquelle le soleil descend ici. On peut littéralement le voir rentrer dans la mer...

At 6:15, it is dark out and we get ready to eat. It feels a bit strange to be out in the dark so early "in summer", especially after experiencing the Yukon summers and the midnight sun, but I love the fact that the girls are out by 7:30 and we are all in bed pretty early too (which is impossible in the Yukon, especially when camping!). Then we are up early before it gets too warm to walk the beautiful 5 km loop that overlook the sea that goes through our doorstep (I will bring you with me soon!).

À 6 h 15, il fait noir et on se prépare à souper. C'est un peu étrange d'être dans le noir si tôt « en été », surtout après avoir goûté aux étés yukonnais et au soleil de minuit, mais j'adore le fait que les filles dorment à 7 h 30 et que nous sommes tous au lit assez tôt (ce qui est impossible au Yukon, surtout en camping!). Puis, on se lève tôt avant qu'il fasse trop chaud pour parcourir la boucle de 5 km qui surplombe la mer qui part de chez nous (je vous amènerai avec moi bientôt!).
