Le volcan Poas

We arrived just before dinner at the Poas Lodge (not to confuse with the Poas Volcano logde, which is in another price range). The view is just AMAZING! It is a 270 degree view of the Central Valley at 2 100 meters of altitude, 3 km from the top of the Poas volcano (so you are right ON the volcano).

Nous sommes arrivés juste avant souper au Poas Lodge (à ne pas confondre avec le Poas Volcano logde, qui est dans une autre fourchette de prix). La vue est INCROYABLE! Il y a une vue à 270 degrés de la vallée centrale à 2 100 mètres d'altitude, à 3 km seulement du sommet du volcan Poas (on est carrément SUR le volcan).

The lounge atmosphere of the restaurant was unlike any place we had seen in Costa Rica. This place was truly our magic moment of the trip.

L'atmosphère lounge du restaurant ne ressemblait à rien de ce que l'on avait vu au Costa Rica. Cet endroit est vraiment notre coup de cœur du voyage.

Right after breakfast (at 8 am), we went to see the volcano. You have to arrive early, because at around 10 everyday, the crater is already covered with clouds. It was stunning!

Tout de suite après déjeuner (à 8 h), nous sommes allés voir le volcan. Il faut arriver tôt, parce que vers 10 h tous les jours, le cratère est déjà couvert de nuages. C'était magnifique!



Then we kept hiking to a volcanic lake.

Puis, nous avons continué notre rando jusqu'à un lac volcanique.





We returned to Chubascos for lunch and enjoyed their wonderful Tasting plate, as well as their sopa negra (black bean soup) with their famous batidos (smoothies) and desserts. Afterwards, we drove through Villa blanca, that seems like it is always in the clouds.

Nous sommes retournés chez Chubascos pour dîner et nous avons pris leur délicieuse assiette dégustation, ainsi que leur sopa negra (soupe aux haricots noirs) avec leurs fameux batidos (smoothies) et desserts. Par la suite, nous avons pris la route qui passe par Villa blanca, un endroit qui semble être perpétuellement dans les nuages.

J'imagine que quand on vient au monde dans un tel endroit, on développe une vue incroyable! ::

La Paz Waterfall Gardens

Des amis nous avaient dit que si nous devions choisir un seul endroit à visiter au Costa Rica (pour les animaux), c'était celui-là! Ils avaient bien raison! Je suis bien contente que nous ayons pris toute la journée (et non seulement l'après-midi comme le font plusieurs qui se rendent au Poas le matin). C'était très tranquille en avant-midi et le dîner-buffet était vraiment bien. Les sentiers sont magnifiques et les animaux époustouflants. J'ai par contre trouvé le personnel parfois un peu blasé... Notre plus grande déception a été qu’il n’y avait que très peu d’information, souvent même le nom des animaux n’était pas indiqué sur les cages, les insectes n'étaient pas identifiés, etc. Si vous allez visiter La Paz Watefall Gardens, apportez avec vous les fameux petits dépliants plastifiés qui se vendent partout afin d’identifier vous-mêmes les animaux. Et si quelqu'un découvre une erreur d'identification (ou si vous connaissez le nom en français, notamment pour les colibris) des animaux plus bas, s.v.p. laissez un commentaire et je le changerai.

Friends had told us that if we were to choose only one place to visit in Costa Rica (to see animals), that was the one! They were right! I am glad that we took all day (and not only the afternoon as do many who go to the Poas volcano in the morning). It was very quiet in the morning and the dinner buffet was good. The trails are beautiful and the animals are amazing. However, I found the staff sometimes a little jaded ... Our biggest disappointment was that there was very little information, often even the names of animals are not indicated on the cages, the insects are not identified, etc.. If you go to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, bring the little laminated pamphlets that they sell everywhere with you to identify the animals yourself. And if someone catches a mistake I made in the name of the animals (or if you know the name in French, especially for the hummingbirds), please leave a comment so I can change it!
