Une randonnée épique

Manon (the same Manon that visited us in Costa Rica) showed us a wonderful hike. If the photos from our last hike did not convince you that the Yukon was an amazing hiking destination, I hope this post will! Hiking here is free (no access fee), you are usually the only person on the trail AND you have an amazing view even if it is only a short hike.

Manon (la même Manon qui est venue nous rendre visite au Costa Rica) nous a fait découvrir une magnifique randonnée. Si les photos de notre dernière rando ne vous ont pas convaincu que le Yukon était une destination de randonnée de choix, j'espère que ce billet le fera! Faire de la randonnée ici est gratuit (pas de frais d'accès), vous êtes habituellement la seule personne sur le sentier ET vous avez une vue incroyable, même s'il s'agit d'une courte randonnée.

Camping in blueberry land

Since most of the Yukon does not have Internet/cell phone coverage, it is hard for us to go out of town. During the week, we have to be available for our clients and on the weekend, we often need to be online to do our contracts. We had a 24 hours window this weekend and went to Kusawa Lake with some friends. We had a wonderful time!

Étant donné que la grande majorité du Yukon ne dispose pas d'une couverture Internet/cellulaire, c'est difficile pour nous de sortir de la ville. La semaine, on doit être disponibles pour nos clients et le weekend, on doit être en ligne pour faire nos contrats. Nous avions une fenêtre de 24 heures ce weekend et nous sommes allés au Lac Kusawa avec des amis. On a vraiment passé du bon temps!

A pilgrimage in the past

The other day, we went to visit a dear friend that bought a house just behind our old house, where we lived for more than 3 years (the longer we stayed in one place since we know each other, JF and I!). I felt really vulnerable to be back there. To stand there and watch this place so familiar that is now inhabited by another family that I never even met. My old greenhouse is still standing and weeds have taken over the garden. The delphiniums are in full bloom. They once were tallers than the girls...They have kept the little clay pot fairy bell one of the girls made.

L'autre jour, nous sommes allés visiter une bonne amie qui a acheté une maison juste derrière celle où nous avons habité pendant plus de 3 ans (le plus longtemps que nous sommes restés dans un même endroit depuis qu'on se connaît, JF et moi). Je me sentais vraiment fébrile d'être là, d'observer cette maison tellement familière, maintenant habitée par une autre famille que je n'ai jamais rencontré. Ma vieille serre est encore debout et les mauvaises herbes ont envahi le jardin. Les pieds d'alouette sont en fleurs. À l'époque, ils étaient plus grands que les filles... Ils ont gardé la petite cloche pour les fées fait à partir d'un pot en terre cuite par l'une des filles.

:: And we walked that path that we took every single day, to go to the skating rink, and then to the park. It used to be a long and strenuous walk for little legs.../ Et nous avons pris le sentier que nous empruntions tous les jours pour aller à la patinoire, puis au parc. C'était à l'époque une bien grande marche pour des petites jambes... ::

:: And just like they used to when they were toddlers, they ran on the bike "moon" while singing "Au clair de la lune"/Et exactement comme elles faisaient quand elles étaient gamines, elles se sont mises à courir sur la "lune" de vélo en chantant "Au clair de la lune" ::

:: And my friend sang a beautiful song that was in tune with my nostalgia.../Et ma copine a chanté une belle chanson qui était en harmonie avec ma nostalgie... ::

:: And tonight, I went back to have a sauna with my friend and a couple of women, right in her backyard (how beautiful is this green roof sauna?! My friend built it with her own hands!), just a few steps from my old fence. And for a moment, I imagined what our life would be if we would still live there.../Et ce soir, j'y suis retournée pour faire un sauna avec ma copine et quelques autres femmes, juste dans sa cour (ce sauna au toit vert n'est-il pas magnifique?! Ma copine l'a construite elle-même!), à quelques pas de mon ancienne clôture. Et pour un moment, j'ai imaginé ce que serait notre vie si nous habitions encore là... ::

Geocaching with Elise & Co

We had a good time today geocaching in their backyard with some of our good friends Elise and Ludo and their sweet daughters. There was quite a bit of bushwalking involved, but the girls did awesome!

On a passé du bon temps aujourd'hui avec nos amis Élise et Ludo et leurs filles à faire du geocaching derrière chez eux. Il y a eu pas mal de rando hors sentier, mais les filles ont été incroyables!

Aujourd'hui, les filles passaient la journée avec une de leurs grand-mamans yukonnaises et JF et moi en avons profité pour aller faire une petite randonnée en amoureux.

Today, the girls were spending the day with one of their Yukon grandmas and JF and I went for a hike together.
