Our contribution to the Gold Rush

Today we went to meet the adventurers that are living the Gold Rush of 1898 all over again since May 27th. They are dressed like in the old time, they built their rafts, eat food that people ate at the time (and carry it all with them). They hiked the Chilkoot trail (and the dangerous Golden scales) many times to carry the necessary 5 000 pounds of stock to be allowed in Canada to participate in the Gold Rush. What an adventure those 10 are going through! It was magical to be there to welcome them and to offer them some help to carry all their belongings over the Whitehorse dam! They were so happy to meet some French speaking people (they are all French speaking, most of them from Quebec). They only received one letter from their family since the beginning. They should be in Dawson city around August 11th and they will start looking for gold. Aujourd'hui, nous sommes allés rencontrer les aventuriers qui revivent la ruée vers l'or de 1898 depuis le 27 mai. Ils sont habillés comme dans le temps, ont construit eux-mêmes leurs radeaux, se nourrissent des aliments de l'époque (et transportent tous leurs vivres avec eux). Ils ont fait la piste Chilkoot (et les dangereuses Golden Stairs) à plusieurs reprises pour transporter les 5 000 livres de matériel nécessaire pour avoir le droit d'entrer au Canada et prendre part à la ruée vers l'or. Quelle aventure ces 10 personnes sont en train de vivre! C'était magique d'être là pour les accueillir et leur offrir de l'aide pour transporter leurs biens par-dessus le barrage de Whitehorse! Ils étaient tellement heureux de rencontrer des gens qui parlaient français (ils sont tous francophones, et la plupart sont Québecois). Il n'ont reçu qu'une seule lettre de leur famille depuis leur départ... Ils devraient arriver à Dawson vers le 11 août et ils commenceront à chercher de l'or. This sure isn't old fashion transportation, but we sure enjoyed it (I had a single one to carry Mara)!

Ceci n'est bien évidemment pas un moyen de transport ancien, mais nous nous sommes tout de même bien amusés (j'avais une girafe simple pour tirer Mara)!
