A weekend of food

It all started with a brunch at our friend's beautiful new house.

:: Our kids are such accomplices! Maybe it's because they know each other since birth... ::

:: We made chapatis for dinner ::
:: Nous avons fait des chapatis pour souper ::

Chapatis recipe

2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups unbleached white flour
1 tablespoon of salt
about 1 cup of water

Mix until you can knead (add water gradually). Knead 3-5 minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes with a tea towel on top. Split in 8-10 balls. Roll as thin as possible. Cook in very hot skillet (cast iron if you have one). Cook on both side. Be careful, it burns easily. Spread butter on it while still warm. So simple and quick and so good!

We like to put some garlic mayo on top, lettuce and chicken and wrap with foil (it's not the same without it!). I always save some to use as pizza crust the day after.

Recette de chapatis

2 t. de farine de blé entier
2 t. de farine de blé non blanchie
1 c. à table de sel
environ 1 tasse d'eau

:: And raw mango and peach ice cream and a batch of raw cheesy kale chips ::

Mango and peach ice cream

1/3 cup dates
1/4 c water
1/2 avocado
2 large mangoes
1 large white peach

Soak dates in water for 30 min if you have time. Blend in blender until you get a thick paste, add the fruits and process until smooth. Put in an ice cream make and follow the manufacturer's directions.

Crème glacée mangues et pêches

1/3 t. de dattes
1/4 t. d'eau
1/2 avocat
2 grosses mangues

Beautiful! What a wonderful weekend and so yummy by the looks of it. Thank you for your English and the recipes! :) We love chapatis, I love your idea of chicken mayo rolls with them. They do make good pizzas as well! :) The girls wool creations look gorgeous. It looks like all is going wonderfully with first grade :) xxx

Thanks for the recipes, I'm especially interested in the one for peach and mango ice cream. We have no mangos here, but it's peach season, and I'm curious to see how peach ice cream with dates as sweetener will come out!

We make chapatis at our house at least once a week! One possible change you could try (My Mother-in-Law taught me, she's from mumbai.) is to roll the balls into a small disc to start, then spread a little oil over the surface, sprinkle with flour, fold in half, rub with oil, sprinkle with flour, fold in half again. Then roll as before. This way they have a bunch of beautiful flaky-soft layers and puff beautifully.
