La Fortuna et le volcan Arenal

We set up to do a hike to go as close as possible to the Arenal volcano (that has been dormant for the past couple years, so we can't see lava flowing at night as it used to be), but I had to turn around with Mara and Mathilde because it was a more strenuous hike than we thought (and there were lots of stinging ants, Mathilde freaked out, started running in the trail to not walk into them - there was a good 20 meters stretch COVERED in ants - and fell and got stung in many places, let's just say it was not a good way to start a hike).

My Mom, JF and Aïsha did the whole trail.

:: Mamie impressed us all!/Mamie nous a tous impressionnés! ::

:: A proud little hiker!/Une fière petite randonneuse! ::

:: The clouds moved for 30 seconds, so they could see the top/Les nuages se sont tassés 30 secondes pour leur laisser voir la cime ::

:: JF spotted a white hawk/JF a aperçu une buse blanche ::

They went back down right in the lava trail of the 1992 eruption.

:: In the meantime, we calmed our bites in the cold river (also in a lava trail)/Pendant ce temps, nous avons apaisé nos piqûres dans la rivière froide (aussi dans une coulée de lave) ::

:: A howler monkey, right on the side of the road!/Un singe hurleur sur le bord de la route! ::

Then, we ended the day in the hot springs. The owner of our hotel in El Castillo (a little town just out of Arenal) told us of a spot where locals go enjoy the hot springs for free (instead of paying the exorbitant price in the luxurious lodges). We all had a blast!

:: The girls had such a good time sliding there (there were two pools, one up top and the other down and there was a pretty strong current between them. After seeing some Ticos turn it into a waterslide, they gave it a go! ::
